Rye Harbour, Tea and Cake – another warm, welcoming, and thought-provoking event

Our latest Rye Harbour Tea and Cake – another warm, welcoming, and thought-provoking event, bringing local residents together to learn, connect, and share experiences. There was a real buzz in the room.

This month we were delighted to welcome three guest speakers:

  • Ricky Perrins from Possibility People
  • Marie, a Social Prescriber working within the Rye area
  • Maggie from the Association of Carers

Each speaker provided valuable insights into the support and services available to local people, highlighting the important work their organisations undertake within our community.

Following the presentations, Jan, Community Coordinator, opened the floor for discussion, inviting attendees to consider the question:

“What do you feel is missing and needed in the Rye Harbour area?”

The conversation that followed was both honest and engaging, with a wide range of views and experiences shared. A recurring theme was the lack of accessible mental health and emotional wellbeing support within the local area. Several attendees spoke about the challenges people face when seeking help, and one particularly moving contribution came from a participant who shared their family’s experience of struggling to access suicide support during a time of crisis. Sadly, this reflects an issue that many communities across the UK continue to face.

Alongside the discussions, our wonderful community angels from A Touch of Gentleness, Jo and Izzy,

offered their soothing hand massages to attendees. Nine people enjoyed this relaxing treatment, providing a moment of calm, comfort, and wellbeing. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive โ€“ a little touch of bliss that was greatly appreciated by all who took part.

and finally,

It was Heather’s birthday – one of our ‘friends’ from the day FAiR started events in November 2023. Jan presented her with a card and gift and of course, we all sang Happy Birthday. Well deserved.

As always, the morning was accompanied by plenty of tea, cake, conversation, and companionship, helping to strengthen the community connections that make these gatherings so special.
