‘Friendship, Fellowship and Fun’ held on an exceptionally hot morning!

Our monthly Tilling, Tea and Cake event was one to remember – held on an exceptionally hot morning, but that didn’t stop 24 wonderful people from joining us for ‘Friendship, Fellowship and Fun’. Conversation flowed, information was shared and of course, cake was eaten!

As ever, we were treated to a delicious spread of cakes and savouries, generously supplied by The Cornish Bakery and Jempson’s – a huge thank you to both for helping make the morning even more special. Every bite was thoroughly enjoyed, and the refreshments were the perfect accompaniment to the great company.

Chris, our CEO, opened the event with a warm welcome,

and Jan, FAiR’s Befriending Coordinator,

spoke passionately about the power of volunteering and the impact it can have. Her heartfelt words clearly resonated – by the end of the morning, three new volunteers had signed up to provide ‘weekly companionship calls’, and four stepped forward to help at our monthly events. We’re so grateful for their support and excited to get them trained and involved.

Jan also shared exciting news about our new event, “Winchelsea, Tea and Cake”, and announced who some our speakers will be over the coming months.

David from Citizens Advice / CAB 1066. was present at the Tilling event, mingling with attendees and offering guidance and support to those who needed it – a wonderful addition to the morning.

We also had the absolute pleasure of celebrating a very special occasion: Cecily Prebble’s birthday! Chris presented Cecily with a birthday card and a gift voucher from Nineteen in Rye, Miriam, our warm-hearted Meeter and Greeter, handed her a beautiful bouquet, and Ted, FAiR’s much-loved therapy dog, made a surprise delivery – a birthday cake! The whole room joined in singing Happy Birthday, making it a moment full of joy, smiles, and heartfelt applause.

From new faces to familiar friends, and from inspiring talks to spontaneous songs, this month’s event was a beautiful reminder of the strength and warmth of our community.

Thank you also goes to A Touch of Gentleness https://www.atouchofgentleness.org/  to everyone who attended, helped, and shared the morning with us. We can’t wait to welcome you again at our next gathering – same place, more cake, and plenty more smiles.

July date:  19th – Tilling Green Community Centre – 10-12pm.  Judith Blincow is talking about the History of The Mermaid Hotel in Rye and The Rye Marine Cadets will be joining our volunteers.
