A successful launch of Winchelsea, Tea and cake.

Following on from the success of Tilling, Tea and Cake – our informative and social monthly event, we are starting to develop new venues in communities of rural Rother.

Winchelsea, Tea and Cake, to be held the last Wednesday of each month (10-12pm) at Winchelsea Beach Community Hall, launched successfully on April 30th.

It was a beautiful, warm sunny morning and 26 people attended including in Rye Mayor – Andy Stewart and the Mayoress, his wife Niki and Alison Cooper from Mediation plus.

FAiR’s Befriending Coordinator, Jan Crook welcomed everyone and explained our intention with each event whilst asking people to share their thoughts and requests for support.

CEO – Chris Pollard gave a brief backstory of how he became involved with Community work in Maidstone  with a Hospice and a UK wide educational charity,  following the death of his much loved father – a GP in Maidstone.

How this led him to becoming a trustee and subsequently appointed CEO of a Kent based educational charity.
During this period he learned about the benefits of Befriending Services for lonely and isolated people. On moving to Rye with his wife, an introduction to Rother Voluntary Action proved hugely beneficial in the setting up FAiR.

Mayor Andy Stuart spoke about the importance of collaboration, bringing services to our rural communities and praised FAiR’s work in the community.

Mayoress Niki Stuart spoke about Music Well, their choir, the Rye Racketeers, a band of amateur musicians and how Music Well will be collaborating with an organisation in Brighton.

Join us for the next event – May 28th – 10-12pm when 1st responders will doing defib demos and Andy Dinsdale from Strandliners will talk about local environmental issues on Winchelsea beach.
