Winchelsea, Tea and Cake – Sept 24th – another successful morning

Our monthly Winchelsea Tea and Cake event, held on the last Wednesday of September, brought together 36 people for another successful morning filled with friendship, learning, and support.

We were delighted to welcome local author Miriam J. McGuirk as our main speaker. Miriam shared her writing journey spanning 15 years and spoke with passion about the process behind her latest novel ‘Second Chances’. Her story inspired many in the room and she hopes to follow up with ‘Writing Workshops’ in the near future.

Also, joining us was Janet from Spring PA, who, moved by Miriam’s talk, spoke openly about dementia and its impact on her own family. She explained Spring Care’s approach to the Herbert Protocol, often referred to as support for “the Wanderers.”

Rather than following a strict textbook method, her team combines professionalism with empathy, offering care that also walks alongside families. For many of us who have supported loved ones through life-limiting conditions, this resonated deeply.

We were especially pleased to welcome new attendees –  Sara and Daniel from Hastings Court Care Home in Hastings, along with four residents. Seeing their smiling faces and receiving their positive feedback was heart warming.
Sara – Head of Client Relations sent us the following feedback:

“We had a such warm welcome from everybody at FAIR, fabulous tea and cake and a real community spirit. Our residents were overjoyed, one resident said, ‘it’s wonderful to experience such unbridled love’. We can’t wait to attend the next meet up”
This is an example of why we do what we do at FAiR – Thank you Sara.

Jan – Community Coordinator

spoke about the Lions Club’s free ‘Message in a Bottle Scheme’, a potentially lifesaving initiative. The small container, stored in the fridge, contains essential personal and medical information that emergency responders can access immediately in a crisis. With green cross stickers placed on the front door and fridge, first responders know to look for the bottle.

Information to include inside:

  • Personal details (name, date of birth, GP, address, and contact number)
  • Medical conditions and any allergies
  • Contact details for two emergency contacts
  • List of regular medications (or copy of a prescription list)
  • Details of anyone you have caring responsibilities for

We highly recommend everyone has one of these containers in their home. To arrange receiving one free of charge, please contact us:

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to another warm, welcoming, and informative event. We look forward to seeing you at the next Winchelsea Tea and Cake – Wed – October 29th.
